In the mountainous area of Nui To, Tri Ton district of the Mekong Delta of An Giang, there is an evergreen tropical tree entering harvest season. Tram fruit (Syzygium cumini, commonly known as Malabar plum), is a native tree in Southeast Asia, which usually enters harvest season in May or June. The fruits resemble large berries, with oblong shapes. Unripe fruits are green, and as they mature, their colour changes to pink, then to shining crimson red and finally to a deep blue-black colour. The fruit has a combined taste of sweet, sour and astringent flavour. The fruits provide an additional income source for locals in Nui To area during summer. VNA Photo: Công Mạo
